Some places are not just mere restaurants; they are Doraemon's time machine of good old days and cherished memories. @barbq.calcutta is one such place to reckon with. Established in the heart of Kolkata’s iconic Park Street, this restaurant has been serving generations with its authentic chinese food amid old-world ambiance. For my dearest mum, Bar B Q is more than just a restaurant—it’s a time capsule to her childhood where she used to enjoy weekend brunches with grandfather were a ritual, and today, she’s reliving that tradition with me, right here, at the same place, on the same balcony seating overlooking the buzzing crowd. We started with their crispy chicken wontons exuding a vermillion golden outlier, crackling with every bite, revealing a succulent chicken filling that is both delicate and deeply satisfying. Dipped in their tangy in-house chili sauce, it’s giving everything that us GenZs dream and scream. The mixed fried rice had the weapons that are a MUST to curb midweek hues- prawns, mushrooms, tender chicken, and pork. Every spoonful is giving umami, earthy flavours that one would expect for a sumptuous dinner. To pair, we chose the chef's recco Kung Pao Chicken especially for its sweet and spicy sauce, with crunchy peanuts, cashew and dried chilies adding a fiery kick. And finally, last but not the least, the chocolate souffle.
