આશા ભોંસલેનો જન્મ 1933માં મહારાષ્ટ્રના સાંગલીમાં એક સંગીત પ્રેમી પરિવારમાં થયો હતો. તેમના પિતા પંડિત દીનાનાથ મંગેશકર પાસેથી તેમણે સંગીતના પ્રથમ પાઠ શીખ્યા હતા. માત્ર 9 વર્ષની નાની ઉંમરે પિતાનું છત્ર ગુમાવ્યા બાદ, પરિવારના ભરણપોષણ માટે તેમણે અને બહેન લતા મંગેશકરે ગાયકીની શરૂઆત કરવી પડી હતી. 1943માં તેમણે પોતાની પ્રથમ મરાઠી ફિલ્મ 'માઝે બાળ' માં ગીત ગાયું હતું. શરૂઆતના વર્ષોમાં તેમને ઘણો સંઘર્ષ કરવો પડ્યો હતો, પરંતુ તેમની મહેનત અને અવાજના જાદુએ તેમને ટૂંક સમયમાં જ બોલિવૂડમાં ઓળખ અપાવી
