When they interrupt you for the 47th time today, you want to lose it. I see you. Mid-text, mid-call, mid-PEEING, and there’s that voice again. “Mom? Mumma? Mummy? MAMMAAAAA?” The rage is real. The guilt about the rage is also real. But here’s the thing - Get down to their level and make eye contact—even when you’re annoyed. I know it feels like the LAST thing you want to do, but something shifts when you physically lower yourself to meet them. They calm down faster. You calm down faster. The whole interaction takes less time than if you’d snapped from across the room. And here’s the game-changer: Give them a real number. Not “in a minute” or “later” or “when I’m done.” Say “15 minutes, then we’ll talk” and SET A TIMER they can see. Suddenly they have something concrete to hold onto instead of that anxious loop of “but when though??” The truth? You’re not a bad parent for being irritated. You’re human. But how you handle that irritation in the next 30 seconds? That matters!! Save this for tomorrow when it happens again (because it will 😝)
