Siya Goyal showed the middle finger to the media on camera. In my view, that gesture wasn’t directed only at the media—it was also a sign of disrespect toward the Indian legal system and society. The reason, I believe, is that she feels there will be no real consequences for her. People like this often act fearlessly because they expect to be protected by the system and supported by sections of society. This isn’t the first time she’s been involved in controversy. In my opinion, some people repeatedly make provocative statements because they know they are unlikely to face any accountability. Even The Print published an article supporting Siya Goyal’s conduct. The article, written by Shobhaa De, argues that Siya’s behaviour was justified. I’ve shared the link to that article in my Instagram Broadcast Channel. So far, however, very few people have questioned it. I believe The Print should remove that article because, in my opinion, it appears to justify the actions of an accused person, risks influencing public perception before the court has reached a verdict, and can be deeply hurtful to the victim’s family. I also urge the publications that carry Shobhaa De’s columns—The Times of India, The Asian Age, Deccan Chronicle, and The Print—to think carefully about the kind of opinion pieces they choose to publish. Media platforms have a responsibility to avoid content that could undermine public confidence in due process or cause unnecessary distress to those affected by serious criminal cases. #siyagoyal #news #theprint #article #ardroxz
