I used to make fun of someone for being too serious about their career. We were young, and it felt like he was missing out on life by being so focused. Looking back, he just knew what mattered to him earlier than the rest of us did. And that is not something to mock. That is something to respect. Not everyone figures things out at the same pace and that is completely okay. Some people spend years experimenting before they find their direction. Some people commit early and go all in. Neither is wrong. But what I wish someone had told me back then is that being invested in your work is not a personality flaw. It is a choice. A very intentional one. We tend to judge what we do not yet understand. Especially when the results are not visible right away. So if someone in your life is being called too serious or too focused or too ambitious right now, leave them alone. They are not missing out. They are just building.
