There are costs women pay every single day in corporate that never show up on a payslip. And most men don't even know they exist. The likability tax. Be assertive and you're "aggressive." Be kind and you're "not leadership material." Men get called confident for the exact same behavior. The appearance tax. Men throw on a shirt and nobody thinks twice. Women spend time, money, and energy on how they look just to be taken seriously in a room. The emotional labor tax. Remembering birthdays, organizing lunches, taking meeting notes. None of it shows up in a performance review but skip it once and you're "not a team player." The credibility tax. A man shares an idea and it's brilliant. A woman shares the same idea and it "needs more data." The motherhood penalty. The moment a woman becomes a mother, her ambition gets questioned. Nobody asks a new father if he's still committed to his career. The safety tax. Staying late means worrying about how you're getting home. Men think about the project. Women think about the project and their safety at the same time. These aren't complaints. These are facts. If you're a woman reading this, your exhaustion is valid.
