In a small village in Kutch, I learned what a year can weigh. The women here make kanjaris — backless blouses for dowry. Girls begin at six. One piece can take months, sometimes a year. By the time she marries, her worth is measured in how many she has stitched. It reminded me of psychologist Carol Gilligan’s forty-year study — following the same children into adulthood. She noticed how even childhood games prepare us for the roles we’re expected to grow into. Girls played at keeping house. Boys guarded wickets on dusty fields. One learned that care means doing. The other, that care means not interfering. The kanjari is more than a garment. It’s a record of training — of how we teach girls to give themselves away, thread by thread. Sometimes, travel doesn’t just take you somewhere new. It shows you the patterns you’ve been wearing all along. #Kutch #KutchDiaries #IndianTextiles #HandloomIndia #WomenOfIndia #IndianCulture #TravelDeeper #SlowTravelIndia #RuralIndia #StorytellingPhotography #CulturalHeritage #IndigenousArt #IndianHandloom #EthicalTravel #WomenEmpowerment #HeritageIndia #IndiaGram #AuthenticIndia #DocumentaryPhotography #LifeInIndia
