The Khan Market Surprise: When OTB Gets It Right I'll confess upfront: I'm not a Khan Market person. The fussy boutiques, the impossible parking, the sense that you're paying a premium just for the pin code—it's never been my scene. But when friends insisted we try OTB, I relented. After all, even the most jaded food writer must occasionally venture into enemy territory. OTB—Out of the Box, which is either charmingly literal or painfully on-the-nose, depending on your mood—occupies that curious space between serious restaurant and glorified bar. The kind of place where the cocktail menu gets as much attention as the food, and where the name promises creativity even if the execution doesn't always deliver. I was pleasantly surprised. Mostly. The Good Stuff Let's start with what worked, because in the great tradition of restaurant reviews, I believe in giving credit where it's due. The Shikampuri Kebab was a revelation. Here's the thing about shikampuri that most restaurants get wrong: they make it too refined, too polite. They sand away all the rough edges until you're left with something that tastes like it was designed by committee. OTB's version had character—the lamb was properly spiced, the mint yogurt cut through the richness without overwhelming it, and those mini paranthas were exactly what they needed to be: vehicles for getting kebab to mouth with maximum efficiency. This is the sort of dish that reminds you why we go to restaurants in the first place. The Gambas al Ajillo transported me momentarily to a tapas bar in Barcelona, though with distinctly Indian touches. The prawns were cooked perfectly—a miracle in itself, given how many restaurants turn prawns into rubber—and swimming in garlic-infused oil that you wanted to soak up with bread. Or in this case, with whatever bread-adjacent item you could commandeer from the neighboring table. But the real star of the evening was the Raidana Fish Tikka. Mustard and garlic is one of those combinations that sounds good on paper but can go horribly wrong in execution. Get the proportions off by even a fraction, and you're eating something that tastes like salad dressing gone rogue.
