Friendship abroad isn’t instant, it’s intentional. Back home, I never had to think about how to make friends. It just happened. You’d sit next to someone in class, bump into people through mutuals, or slowly grow close without even realising it. Here, it feels more… deliberate. You meet people at events, at work, through mutual connections, you exchange numbers, maybe even make plans. But turning that into something deeper takes time. Effort. Consistency. I’ve had moments where I laughed at something and had to explain the context behind it. Or referenced something from home and realised it didn’t land the same way. Even humour feels different sometimes. And then there are the quieter moments, when conversations stay polite, but don’t quite cross into comfort. When you’re around people, but still feel slightly on the outside of it all. No one says anything. But you notice it. The pauses. The differences. The adjustment. And at the same time, you realise… you’ve changed too. The things you value, the way you communicate, what feels like “home”, it’s all shifting. That’s when it hits you, this isn’t just about making friends. It’s about slowly, patiently rebuilding a support system from scratch… in a place where you’re still figuring out where you fit. And when you do find your people here, it means that much more. making friends abroad, expat friendships, living abroad social life, expat loneliness, building friendships overseas, moving abroad experience, adjusting to new culture, cultural differences in friendships, expat life reality, social life abroad, meeting people abroad, making friends in a new country, expat challenges, feeling different abroad, identity abroad, cross cultural friendships, life abroad experiences, relocating overseas, expat journey, personal growth abroad, navigating friendships, social adjustment abroad, living alone abroad, international living, friendship struggles abroad, finding your people abroad, expat lifestyle, adapting overseas, building support system abroad, emotional impact of moving abroad, cultural adjustment, life in a new country #indiansabroad #indiansinuk #unitedkingdom🇬🇧 #selflove❤️ #nri
