Living abroad lesson #1- it’s not that simple to just “go back.” “If you miss home so much, why don’t you just go back?” It sounds like an easy solution. But moving abroad was never accidental for me. I came here for opportunities, to work in the charity sector, to build something meaningful, and to push myself beyond the version of me that felt comfortable. And yes, I miss home. I miss my family, the familiarity, the ease of knowing how everything works without thinking twice. But here’s the thing… Going back right now wouldn’t just be going home. It would be choosing comfort over growth. Living abroad has changed me in ways I didn’t expect. It’s forced me to figure things out on my own, build a life from scratch, and become more independent than I ever thought I could be. And I know I’m not done yet. Maybe I will go back one day. But not right now. Because right now… I’m still becoming the person I moved here to be. If you’ve ever felt this, you’ll understand, it’s not about missing a place. It’s about growing into a version of yourself you don’t want to walk away from just yet.
