1. Sense of community: In India, someone always has your back. If you’re stuck, someone somewhere will help you. A distant cousin, an uncle’s friend, your neighbour’s neighbour, you’re never really alone. Here in the United Kingdom, I’ve learnt independence. But sometimes, I miss that quiet safety of knowing help is always within reach. 2. Textiles & colour everywhere: I miss how bold, colourful, alive everything feels. The patterns. The embroidery. The care in every stitch. Clothes aren’t just clothes, they carry stories, craft, generations of skill. There’s something grounding about wearing pieces made with that much love and intention. 3. Festivals that spill into the streets: Diwali and Holi weren’t just dates on a calendar. They were moods. Colour on your skin, sweets in your hands, noise in the streets, and this shared feeling of celebration with strangers who felt like family. Living abroad has given me independence, growth, perspective. But some parts of home live in your body forever. You don’t stop missing them. You just learn to carry them with you.
