You don’t always notice how much your environment affects your daily life until you experience a different pace. Some places naturally feel more fast-moving and overstimulating, while others encourage slower routines, more walking, more rest, and more time outdoors. It’s not about one place being “better” than another — every environment comes with its own rhythm, challenges, and strengths. What I’ve realised is that our surroundings quietly influence so many parts of our wellbeing: the noise around us, how much nature we see, how connected we feel to people, how often we slow down, and even how much space we have to think and breathe. Our environment shapes habits more than we realise. Instead of blaming ourselves or blaming a city, I think it’s more helpful to ask: what kind of spaces help people feel healthier, calmer, and more connected? Maybe the conversation is less about criticism and more about creating environments where people can thrive — through better public spaces, more greenery, slower moments, stronger communities, and healthier daily routines. Small changes in our surroundings can change how we feel every day.
