Mercedes-Benz has revealed the first images of the new G-Class Cabriolet prototype, marking the return of the convertible G-Wagon after more than 12 years since the original was discontinued in 2013. The new model now comes as a 4-door SUV with a retractable soft-top roof, replacing the hard top but retaining the signature boxy G-Class styling, flat bonnet, protective door bars and side-hinged rear door with the spare wheel. Technical details are still limited, but the prototype appears to have a rear differential, hinting at combustion engine options. Mercedes may also offer an electric variant using the G580 with EQ technology. The SUV is expected to keep its full off-road hardware. There is no confirmed debut timeline yet. The G-Class Cabriolet has a long history, starting as a 2-door soft-top in 1979 and running until 2013. Later, Mercedes introduced the ultra-luxurious Maybach G650 Landaulet in 2017, and Brabus recently created two convertible AMG G63-based models—the Brabus 800 Cabrio and Brabus 800 XL Cabrio. #mercedesbenz #mercedesgclass
