Two years ago, Heirloom Cities, helmed by Sri, embarked on a journey to document the people, kitchens, and streets of our City of Joy. With Anindya and Madhushree as editors, Nandini Thirani leading the design, and writers including myself, Amrita, Malini, Priyadarshini, Rushina, Madhushree, Anindya and Pinaki da, it became a true labour of love, weaving together the many stories, flavours, and memories that make Kolkata what it is. As the book beautifully says: “To wander through Kolkata today is to taste its innumerable stories everywhere…” This was also my first time writing for a book, and I’m deeply grateful to Sri, Madhushree, and Anindya for giving me this opportunity. I wrote about the changing culture of dining out in the city and truly enjoyed the entire process of research. I learnt so much myself along the way. The book is filled with stunning photographs clicked by @anindyasundarbasu and his team and illustrations, making it a true collector’s delight for anyone who loves Kolkata and its stories. Last week, it was launched in Mumbai and Delhi, and it is now available for purchase on the Heirloom Cities website.
