Long before backpackers, cafés and hotels, this was Speke Road, named after Peter Speke, whose grand residence once stood where the Indian Museum is today. That very house later became the Sadr Diwani Adalat, the highest civil and revenue court of its time, established under Warren Hastings. Sudder is obviously the British spelling of Sadr.
