Many believe Warren Hastings still returns in a phantom carriage, searching for the black box he lost centuries ago that could have helped him in his impeachment trial. But why return at all when he was acquitted in his lifetime? Believers say the spirit world follows its own rules where old fears and unfinished guilt outlive the body. And Hastings isn’t alone. Some speak of a soldier, some of a shadowy British woman wandering the gardens and others of a young boy who appears on the grounds. Legend says a football struck his chest, killing him instantly and now his spirit waits for his friends to return, his voice echoing across the field. There’s also the ghost of a white horse, once beloved by its owner, said to roam the estate on certain nights before fading into the darkness. By day, Hastings House is now an Institute of Education for Women. But after dark, whispers from the past drift through Alipore… Do you believe in such stories?
