The most important 9 minutes of each day in your child’s life are often said to be the times when emotional connection is strongest and most impactful. These are: 1. The first 3 minutes after they wake up. 2. The 3 minutes after they come home from school/daycare. 3. The last 3 minutes before they go to bed. Why these 9 minutes matter: 1️⃣ WAKING UP: Sets the tone for their entire day. A calm, loving start can boost their confidence and mood. • Greet them with a warm smile and eye contact. • Offer a gentle hug or cuddle. • Use a soft, cheerful tone - avoid rushing or commands. • Say something like: “Good morning, my love! I’m so happy to see you.” 2️⃣ COMING HOME: It’s when they’re most likely to share what’s really going on, if they feel safe and heard. • Pause whatever you’re doing and give them full attention. • Ask open-ended questions like “What made you smile today?” • Listen without interrupting or correcting. • Avoid diving into homework or chores immediately. 3️⃣ BEFORE BED: It’s a time for reflection, bonding, and emotional closeness. What you say here sticks with them. • Cuddle, read a story, or just talk softly. • Reflect on the day: “ What was your favourite part?” • End with love and reassurance: “I’m proud of you.
