If your baby isn’t talking much yet, it might not be just a “late bloomer” thing. Here are some common habits that can unintentionally slow down speech. 1️⃣ Too much screen time Even if it’s “educational,” screen time doesn’t teach babies to talk back. They need real, back and forth interactions. 2️⃣ Talking to baby, not with them Narrating is good, but give space for your baby to respond, even with a coo or gesture. 3️⃣ Not giving enough pause time We often fill the silence too fast Pause after you speak so your baby has a chance to respond. 4️⃣ Always anticipating their needs If we always hand them the bottle or toy before they try to ask, they don’t get to practice communication. 5️⃣ Lack of face-to-face interaction Babies learn by watching your mouth move. Talking while looking at them helps them mimic sounds. 6️⃣ Not labeling things during routines Simple labels like “cup,” “ball,” or “shoes” help build vocabulary. 7️⃣ Overusing pacifiers during wake windows Pacifiers can comfort, but if used constantly while awake, they reduce babbling time. 8️⃣ Not singing or reading regularly Rhymes and repetition in songs/books help build sound patterns word recognition.
