But RBI has strict rules on what recovery agents can and cannot do. 📌 What recovery agents are NOT allowed to do: • Call before 8 AM or after 7 PM • Threaten, abuse, or mentally harass borrowers • Contact neighbours, relatives, or office colleagues to shame you • Visit without proper ID card and bank authorization • Access your contacts, photos, or private data through loan apps 📌 What you should know: • You can ask for agent identification before speaking • Banks are responsible for recovery agent behaviour • RBI digital lending rules protect borrower privacy • Complaints can be filed with the bank grievance officer first • RBI Ombudsman may provide compensation in serious harassment cases Having a loan is not the problem. Not knowing your rights is. Awareness is sometimes the biggest financial protection.
