🚨 India’s passport rules just changed The government has launched Passport Seva Programme 2.0, bringing major updates most people still don’t fully understand. 📌 What’s changing: • New applicants and renewals will gradually get ePassports with an embedded RFID chip • The chip stores personal and biometric data, making passports more secure and harder to forge • Immigration can become faster with chip-based verification There are also key privacy updates. Your address will no longer be printed on the last page. It will be encoded digitally and accessible only to officials. Parents’ names are also being removed. A big relief for people from single-parent or sensitive backgrounds. Processing times are improving. Tatkal may take around 3 working days, normal around 7 days. This rollout is still phased. Available in select cities like Nagpur, Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad and Amritsar for now. Travel documents are evolving. Faster, safer and more private.
