🚨 “Everyone is saying demonetisation is coming back...” Hold on. That’s not what’s happening. The RBI is only exploring whether India should gradually move from traditional paper currency to polymer notes, the same durable plastic-style notes already used in many countries. Why even consider the switch? Every year, billions of worn-out notes have to be replaced and destroyed, costing the system thousands of crores. Polymer notes last much longer, resist water damage, are harder to tear, and offer better protection against counterfeiting. This isn’t a new concept either. Countries like Australia, Canada, the UK, and New Zealand have been using polymer currency for years. The most important part? The RBI has not announced any demonetisation or withdrawal of existing notes. Officials have only indicated that the idea is being studied, with any future testing likely to begin on lower denominations before any wider rollout. So there is no need to exchange your cash or panic because of viral social media posts. If the change ever happens, it would be a currency upgrade, not another demonetisation.
