Fraudsters first collect basic details like your name, address, or partial Aadhaar information. Then they contact your telecom provider, claim their phone is lost, and request a replacement SIM linked to your number. Once the duplicate SIM is activated, your original SIM stops working. Now every OTP for your bank account, UPI apps, email, and social media goes directly to the scammer. In just a few minutes, they can reset passwords, authorize transactions, and drain your accounts. This is why you should never share personal details over unsolicited calls or press numbers when someone asks you to “activate” or “verify” your SIM. Always buy SIM cards from authorized stores, ensure proper KYC is completed, and if your phone suddenly loses network without reason, contact your telecom operator immediately. A SIM card is more than a phone number. It’s the key to your entire digital identity.
