🚫 STOP pulling your child’s hands! An occupational therapist just taught me this game-changer... WHAT WE ALL DO WRONG: We pull children’s hands during play, to get attention, or when they’re fussy. But this can hurt their developing joints AND doesn’t give them what they actually need! WHAT CHILDREN REALLY NEED: Their brain craves “proprioceptive input” - think of it as their body’s GPS system needing a reset. They need COMPRESSION (squeezing together) not stretching apart. DO THIS INSTEAD (shown in my video): ✅ Hold above & below elbow - gently squeeze together ✅ Hold above & below wrist - gently squeeze together ✅ Think “gentle hug for their joints” WHY THIS WORKS: It’s like scratching an itch in the right spot vs scratching around it - pulling gives the wrong input! The compression gives their nervous system what it’s actually seeking and helps them feel grounded. WHEN TO USE: • When they seem restless or sensory-seeking • During transitions or meltdowns • As part of calming routines, we do this daily at 2pm This technique is used in occupational therapy and is safe for all children - not just those with sensory needs! GAME CHANGER for regulation!Try it and see the difference. Save this so you remember! #parentingtips #sensoryneeds #occupationaltherapy #parenthacks #sensoryprocessing
