If a 13-year-old boy faints, we investigate. If a 13-year-old girl faints, we often say “anxiety.” In clinical practice, symptoms in girls and women are sometimes attributed to anxiety or depression before a full medical workup is completed. While mental health conditions are common and valid, physical causes must always be ruled out systematically. Women’s pain is not anxiety by default. Before labeling a girl “anxious” or “dramatic,”rule out anemia.rule out cardiac causes.rule out endocrine disorders.rule out autoimmune disease. Mental health matters. But so does not missing a diagnosis. . #womenshealthmatters #genderbiasinmedicine #doctor #anemia #patriarchy
