Why is BLUE LIGHT used for newborn jaundice? 💡👶 Newborn jaundice is very common and in most cases, completely treatable. 👶 New babies have: • Extra red blood cells • Faster breakdown of these cells • An immature liver This causes a build-up of bilirubin, a yellow waste substance, leading to yellowing of the skin and eyes. ⚠️ The problem? Unconjugated bilirubin is fat-soluble, so the baby’s body cannot remove it easily.
