I’m Bengali and I don’t like fish, which I know sounds completely wrong, but here we are. I tried making bhapa fish again, this time with koi mach, thinking maybe this would finally be the recipe that changes things for me, but it didn’t. The recipe itself turned out really good though. My parents genuinely loved it, and even I liked the first bite before I remembered that I’m still not a fish person. I made it the slightly harder way using shilnora for the mustard paste, which took extra effort, but you can easily use a grinder and make your life easier. If you enjoy fish, you’ll probably love this because it’s simple, flavourful, and comes together without too much complication. Just don’t let the mustard turn bitter because that’s what makes or breaks this dish, and if you’re like me, you can always make this for someone who actually loves fish.
