I saw my first snowfall in Switzerland at the age of 35… and it felt like stepping into a dream I didn’t know I had been waiting for. It was pure magic. The kind that stays with you. That day, I made a quiet promise to myself — my kids wouldn’t have to wait this long to feel it. So we planned a Kashmir trip around predicted snowfall dates. And yet… it almost didn’t happen. Four days passed with no snow. Just sunny skies or endless rain and hopeful glances at the sky. We even asked our hotel to call us at 3 am if it started snowing. Finally, it was our last day in Gulmarg. The forecasts had failed. It rained non-stop, and it felt like we had missed it. But something in me whispered — try once more. So we took the gondola to Phase 1 anyway. “Mom, what are these white things floating around?” At first, it looked like rain. I opened my umbrella to shield the kids as we stepped out. But then… something felt different. Varun stood there without an umbrella — and he wasn’t getting wet. And in that quiet, almost surreal moment, we realised… it wasn’t rain. It was snowfall. Soft. Silent. Almost like it had been waiting for us. My kids stood there, completely mesmerised — eyes wide, faces lit with wonder I can’t put into words. And in that moment, I knew… this is what I had waited for. This is the core memory I wanted my kids to experience. Because sometimes, magic doesn’t arrive when you plan it. It comes when you hold on just a little longer… and believe it will.
