Here is my honest experience of Kolkata East West Metro, which starts from sector five and ends at Howrah Station. . What was interesting apart from the convenience and the international standard of service, was the fact that people were absolutely civilised as opposed to the unruly crowd, I was dreading to experience in my journey! No spitting or untoward behaviour encountered thankfully. The pathway at the Esplanade station has wheelchair accessibility. There are also, lifts for disabled and senior citizens, which I think is a big plus for this Metro project. The toilets were also thankfully, clean, and there were water coolers at every 200 mts so that commuters can have access to clean drinking water. . There were however, some glitches in terms of my experience. 1. Lack of volunteers to help out, specially during the change over of lines at Esplanade station. 2. While one way had a seamless deduction of the destination fare from my Metro card after reaching my destination. The way back had me deduct my fare in two parts due to lack of posts of interchanging lines. 3. Long wait for trains. There was an approximate waiting time of 15 to 20 minutes per train, which makes crowding inevitable especially during peak times. . Overall, I was highly impressed with the entire metro structure, and I hope that new trains are added so that travelling becomes much more convenient for the people of the city. .
