En route to Coco Shambhala from Goa Dabolim Airport, my first stop was Thakar Adivasi Kala Angan (Museum & Art Gallery) in the ancient village of Pinguli. Here, I had the privilege of meeting Padma Shri recipient Shri Parshuram Atmaram Gangavane and his sons, Chetan and Eknath. Together, we explored the rich history and evolution of Chitrakathi, an art form that has been passed down through generations but now faces the threat of fading into obscurity. The complex is thoughtfully divided into four sections: the museum itself, a performance space for string, leather, and shadow puppetry, an agro-tourism area, and the Thakar House, which primarily serves as a souvenir shop. 👉🏻 Chitrakathi, the art of storytelling through pictures, primarily focuses on the Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. However, the Thakar tribal community has crafted their own unique renditions of these timeless tales.
