Becoming a water baby 101 🌊 Disclaimer: I am not a professional. My goal was to get comfortable in deep water. I’ve not perfected the techniques yet. ⚠️Things I did wrong initially: I went to a swimming pool and learnt to swim freestyle. The pool wasn’t deep. It did not remove my fear of deep water. Even now my freestyle is mediocre at best. ✨My goal was to be able to have fun in water, mainly deep ocean water, and I had no idea how to achieve that. Initially I was very very confused, even google searches did not help. Talking to my pro swimming friends was even worse because they told me to “just keep swimming and you would eventually get comfortable”. It did not work. My understanding was all wrong! I used to think, If I don’t do my best freestyle stroke and immediately latch on to the edge of the pool, then I will drown. This in fact worsened my fear of water. Then I finally figured what I need to learn: It was WATER TREADING ✨ I would watch many YouTube videos and practice in a pool that had deep water. This was when the magic happened!!! Now I understand that even if I barely put any effort, I will stay afloat in sea water, thanks to buoyancy! This has removed my fear of deep water. (Be careful of ocean currents though) I am still very much a beginner but I don’t panic anymore. In fact I love being in water and look forward to my ocean trips!!! 💃 If you’re like me and you want to be comfortable in deep water, this will definitely help ❤️ Go become a water baby, you 🌊🌊🌊 [tags: treading water, scuba diving, free diving, PADI open water diver, learning to swim as an adult, open water swimming, swim tips]
