This has to be the most extreme thing I have ever done! Once I got on the iron ore train, it finally dawned on me why people call it the world’s deadliest train ride! We spent 18 hours on top of these coaches filled with iron ore. With no roof over our heads, no bed, and no washroom, and the extreme saharan heat was a cherry on top. The train goes along the Mauritanian railway, which is 430 miles long, carrying over 22,000 tonnes of iron ore! The train is not really meant to carry people, so it has no proper stops. @monkey.inc and I boarded the train in Zourat and got down at the last spot Nuadibhu. You have to bring food, water, maybe a blanked to help you survive these 18 hours. And if things go wrong, no one can or will help you. Luckily we didn’t do it alone, we got help from our guide - Sidamar, who was a big help all the way, from knowing when to hop on the train, to bringing food and water and making sure we’re alright. But at some point in midnight, the weather became pleasant and it started drizzling, and at that moment I was crying tears of joy! Even though this journey was extreme, I felt a sense of happiness that I cannot describe in words. Visiting Mauritania in itself was eye opening in many ways. This country is very different from any other place I have been to. I will be sharing detailed stories from Mauritania, stay tuned!! Do you have any questions about the Iron Ore Train Ride?
