I was looking for pictures with mum and while I found some super cute ones over the past decade, I also struggled to find enough. Now that’s embarrassing right? I mean who wouldn’t have pictures with their mother?! But that’s the thing - I have pictures with everyone else but her because she was always the one clicking them. She’s the one that stood on the sidelines at 5am and cheered me while I ran my first 10K and then massaged my feet when we got home. She taught me how to parallel park (turns out, she’s fab at it!) when I turned 18 and then screamed at me to drive faster when I was caught for breaking the signal. She’s spent countless nights sleeping next to me when I struggled with anxiety. I never took pictures with mum because she was ALWAYS there, I never felt the need to capture those moments. And it hit me today, because for the first time in 30 years, I wasn’t in the same house on her birthday. Now I need to capture those moments, I need to take the pictures because I’m learning (miserably) how to live in a world where she isn’t right around the corner. She’s far from being a stereotypical mom though. She made sure that gave me all the freedom she never had, all the strength she couldn’t gather, and all the respect people shamelessly didn’t (and continue to not) give her. She raised strong, opinionated, unapologetic, and confident women. Women who are truly and proudly the daughters of the house because she never made us feel like we had to be the “sons”. She broke the society so we could recreate our version of it and took all the bullets that came along the way so we went through life unscathed. In all my lives, in all the worlds, and until the end of time itself, you’ll always be my favourite person💖
