Some people can go from back-to-back social events and still have energy left. Unlike me, after a day of conversations, I need silence, not because I don’t enjoy people, but because my brain is full. For the longest time, I thought I was being rude, distant, or “anti-social.” But it turns out, this is part of ADHD, our brains work harder to stay focused, filter sounds, and read social cues. So when the day ends, our social battery doesn’t just run low, it crashes. Getting diagnosed at 27 helped me finally understand this part of myself.
