The story of one of the city’s busiest landmarks begins in 1862. Patna Junction, built during the British era, stands today as a symbol of the city’s colonial heritage. Initially known as Bankipore Junction, it was part of the railway line connecting Danapur and Lakhisarai on the Kolkata–Delhi route. At the time, it was the city’s primary railway station and the main boarding point for British officials and travelers. In 1917, the station was renamed Patna Junction. It was later extensively remodeled in 1940 with a substantial budget, transforming it into a modern railway hub. Today, Patna Junction is one of the city’s most crowded places. Beyond its role as a major transportation center, it remains an important part of Patna’s colonial and modern history.
