What do I write about Orlo which hasn’t been written before? That it celebrates the best traditions of Indian regional cuisines? That along with its killer panoramic views of Durgam Cheruvu and cable bridge, it has a warm, welcoming vibe with its interiors resembling a traditional Indian home, down to ths Jamdani curtains, “achaar” burneys, Kondapalli toys and antique teakwood cupboards housing Indian cookery classics? Or that ths young team is so hands-on & friendly? @orlo.india is all this & much much more. The launch was marked by an extraordinary Rajasthani meal, curated by the immensely talented and adorable Dipali Khandelwal from Jaipur. Though it was a month ago , the memorable experience remains as fresh as yesterday. Be it the refreshing and gut-fulfilling Bajre ki Raab , bajra millets simmered in buttermilk ) or the Kankri Mirch (edible gum, peppercorn and nuts much like a desi granola), Mirch Malai ki chutney (green chillies and freshly churned cream, this was an absolute delight), Annakoot Ki Sabji (resembling Undhiyu), or the Singhaade (water chestnuts) ka Aachar, every bite was absolutely distinct from your average Daal Baati Choorma -Gatte Ki Sabzi (most often spicy & oily at most restaurants comprising Rajasthani dining experiences. The Junglee Maas was a stunner, standing out with its impeccably cooked texture and minimalist, clean flavours. The sweet endings of Moong Daal Halwa and Paush chaawal? Voila! 🩷 Dipali of @thekindnessmeal fame explained different cultural zones like Shekhawati (Kankri Mirch from thete) , Mewar, Mewat etc. The session was made livelier by ths shaayari of poet @wamiqsaifi who narrated anecdotes of Mirza Ghalib and Akbar-Birbal with great wit & humour. The sarod player strumming retro numbers kept everyone happy.
