The cue is simple: “Let’s breathe once.” And honestly, I didn’t start using it because I’m a calm or wise mom. I started because I was overwhelmed. Every time his mood flipped, something inside me would tighten. Not because of him… but because it pulled up memories of my own childhood, where big emotions were either shut down or punished. I didn’t want to repeat that. I didn’t want him to feel what I once felt. I felt I needed to step back and even during exams when he is not studying, trust me it was the hardest part. One day, right in the middle of an argument, I remembered something my yoga teacher had said: “When the energy rises, lower your breath… not your voice.” And without thinking too much, I just said, “Let’s breathe once.” He still rolls his eyes. He still says, “Mujhe yoga nahi karna.” But one long exhale really does soften the air between us. It’s such a small shift, but it moves both of us out of rajas, that fired-up reactive state, into a little bit of sattva, the calm clarity where we can actually hear each other again. I’m not using yoga to “fix” him… I’m using it to regulate myself so I don’t pass my old patterns onto him. I’m just a mother who’s learning every day that sometimes one breath can change the moment and sometimes, that moment changes the relationship. 💛 (Conscious parenting, emotional regulation, motherhood, yogic parenting, parenting, parent child bond, maaofallblogs) #YogicParenting #Maaofallblogs #prernasinha
