After turning 1, many babies start looking noticeably slimmer, and it can feel scary. But in most cases, it’s completely normal and science-backed. In the first year, babies gain weight rapidly because the body is focused on fast physical growth and fat storage. After 12 months, the growth pattern changes. Weight gain slows down, and the body starts prioritizing brain development, coordination, and muscle strength. At the same time, most toddlers begin walking, climbing, and running. This sudden jump in activity means they burn significantly more calories every day. So even if they’re eating “okay,” their calorie output increases. Another big reason is that their body composition changes, baby fat reduces and muscle starts developing, which makes them look leaner even if they are healthy. Also, appetite becomes unpredictable at this stage. Toddlers start eating based on real hunger cues, so you’ll often see: -one day they eat like a grown adult -the next day they survive on 3 bites and milk 😅 As long as your child is active, playful, meeting milestones, and growing steadily on their growth chart, this “slim toddler phase” is usually normal. However, if weight loss is sudden, continuous, or your child seems weak, lethargic, or isn’t growing in height, it’s best to consult your pediatrician. 🤍 #parentingtips #parentingadvice #boymom #babylove #babygrowth
