Things I wish I knew sooner as a toddler mom… so I’m sharing them with you 🤍 1️⃣ Narrate before transitions “Two more slides, then we’re leaving.” → Fewer power struggles because their brain gets time to shift. 2️⃣ Get on their level before correcting Eye contact + calm voice first. → Toddlers listen better when they feel seen, not managed. 3️⃣ Preview the day in simple language “Park. Lunch. Nap. Home.” → Predictability = less anxiety = fewer meltdowns. 4️⃣ Assume a need before assuming behavior Hungry? Tired? Overstimulated? → Most “bad behavior” softens when the need is met. 5️⃣ Use connection before instruction A hug. A hand squeeze. A playful tone. → Cooperation comes faster after connection. 6️⃣ Lower the number of daily no’s Baby-proof more. Correct less. → Less conflict for both of you. 7️⃣ Repair after hard moments “I didn’t like how I reacted. I’m still learning.” → This teaches emotional safety and resilience. No one told me the toddler years aren’t about controlling behavior — they’re about building skills. Once I shifted from “How do I stop this?” to “What is my child learning right now?” everything changed.
