Crunchy, nut‑sweet and packed with secrets: meet #Sohphlang — Meghalaya’s winter gem! Wild-harvested in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills, this nutty tuber is rich in phosphorus & plant protein and is also known for its natural deworming powers. Eaten raw with chili salt or nei-lieh (perilla seed powder), THIS IS A LOCAL FAVOURITE! (For most, it is an acquired taste, but many people grow to love it over time!) Some facts: ~Sohphlang is the local Khasi name for the tuber of the leguminous plant Flemingia vestita. ~Although wild, it is harvested around October–May in the Khasi‑Jaintia Hills region. ~Used traditionally as a vermifuge to expel intestinal worms.
