Italy on a budget? You want to know the secret? Here’s the tea: My 10-day Italian escapade cost me just ₹113211 ($1,325) and ₹163311 ($1,911) from Shillong! (Yes, it’s possible!) I covered the fashion capital of Milan, Lake Como and visited the charming towns of Bellagio and Varenna, Venice and its winding canals, majestic bridges, and piazzas, the enchanting Tuscany and the beautiful Florence, Pisa, Rome and the Vatican City. #Budget breakdown: ~ Flights from India to Italy usually cost around ₹30,000 - ₹60,000 (round-trip). I opted for a direct flight to avoid the hassle of getting a transit visa keeping my travel dates flexible. Remember being flexible is the best money saver. ~ A short term Schengen Visa costs 8620 ~ Visa appointment was 2211 ~ I used intercity Trains like Italotreno and Trenitalia to connect me to each destination. I pre-booked all my tickets during summer sale leading the total transportation cost to ₹10,080 ~ Accommodation varies from budget-friendly hostels to cozy B&Bs. I usually stay in female dorm hostels. The average cost differs from city to city. For 9 nights, my expenditure totaled to ₹26300 ~ My total expenses in Italy came to ₹31000. This includes food, attractions, city taxes,metro passes and public buses. For food in specific, average daily food cost was: ₹1,500 - ₹2,500. For 10 days, I spent approximately ₹23000. Italian cuisine is renowned for its flavors! I indulged in local eateries and street food. I did not compromise! But again, the total budget varies depending on individual preferences and exchange rates. Keep in mind a few things- plan ahead, stay flexible (the best way to save money), use public transport!) With careful planning, I experienced the best of Italy without breaking the bank.
