The iconic yellow taxis of Kolkata have a rich history dating back to the 1900s when taxis were first introduced in the city. . . I got a chance to sit in one of them during my latest trip to Kolkata. I got out of the airport and checked for an Uber to my destination. It showed ₹805! I was adamant on not paying that much for a cab! 😂 I went out and saw everyone walking towards one particular counter called Yatri Sathi. I went there and stood in the queue. Then I noticed people sharing an OTP with the person at the counter. So I asked a group of girls in front of me. I was told I needed to download the app and book a cab, after which I must share the OTP with the lady at the counter. I did so and got a cab for half the price at ₹416! Thank Goodness for the Govt of West Bengal and its initiative! The Yatri Sathi intends to bring all the yellow taxis in Kolkata under one umbrella where passengers can pay directly to the drivers with no surge charge, no commission or middlemen involved! I have travelled multiple times to Kolkata but had never come across this app. . . . .
