Mili's Post

I am currently reading this book - This novel is like four different stories interlocking for some unknown reason, and served in one single cover. First story started with Bayazid, an orphan found in Rawalpindi bazar in 1955. His story really put the reader in hope to read a layered emotional journey that will unveil the social hierarchy, struggles and emotional journey of an orphan. He was adopted by the teashop owner Karim Khan, he became a voracious reader and also became a good friend of Zain who was from a higher race of societal status, then story ended abruptly and the narrator started another story. Each story is about a very different person and at the end you can understand everyone is connected with each other. The rich people of Pakistan look like the modern version of colonial rulers, they are keen to plunge their own country and ruined their own people rather than developing the land they earned as their own country, it looks like they are mocking to the freedom fighters and despite the fact they are holding the powerful positions in the country, they don't hold any accountability, they are happily aloof from the reality, busy in making plans how to spend time in foreign countries, all rich people studied in foreign countries, dreaming of get back to there and spend rest of the life there. Adultery, booz and smoking joints that's everyday routine and time to time carry in village maiden into their lavish farmhouse— ditto copy of colonial culture isn't it? They are painfully unaware of what they look like. I didn't know what I was expecting but definitely not this. A good chunk of the book is engaged to portray the rich people's bungalow interior design, and their food habits, delicacy. The book could be way shorter than 343 pages, unnecessarily dragged. It was too much. Few pages left.....It could be better....
