Over two joyful Saturdays, our Write Your Very Own Christmas Story workshop at @life_at_ikigai turned into so much more than a writing program. We wrote, imagined, laughed, debated plot twists, helped each other find better words, and watched young writers gently step into each other’s worlds. There was peer bonding in its truest sense — children reading out ideas, suggesting endings, cheering for characters that weren’t even theirs. Each child created a mini Christmas-themed storybook, and no two stories were alike. Watching their ideas unfold on paper was a reminder of how naturally stories bloom when children feel safe, heard, and inspired. We also paused to celebrate Christmas together. The children decorated a Christmas tree with ornaments and leaves, each carrying messages, wishes, and thoughts written by them. It became a beautiful collective memory of words, hope, and festive warmth. Four hours of writing, art, vocabulary play, creativity, collaboration, and celebration, ending with proud smiles and hand-drawn covers holding stories they can truly call their own. Grateful for the energy, trust, and imagination each child brought into the room. This is why we write.
