One day I received one of the best kind of emails - an invitation to visit Australia from the tourism board itself. I landed in Sydney, where it was summer, in December! Australia doesn’t just flip the seasons; it flips expectations. I should mention Australia is confusingly full of things that can kill you, but none of them showed up. Instead, I met koalas. Actual, fluffy, eucalyptus-scented koalas. One of them blinked at me like he had wisdom to share but couldn’t be bothered. I respected that. And then came the food. Here’s a sentence I never thought I’d write: I had fantastic Indian food in Sydney. Somewhere between my butter naan and second helping of paneer, I realized Australia had just casually out-Indian’d some parts of India. Oh—and here’s the best part for fellow Indian passport holders: Australia gives you a tourist e-visa. I got mine with 3 years validity while just sitting at home. If you ever need a reason to go to Australia, go for the people, the nature, the weather, or the koalas. But really, go because the world makes a little more sense when you’re watching the sun rise over the Sydney Harbour with sand between your toes and adventure just down the coast. @visitnsw #feelnewsydney
