At 410 feet below sea level, it’s one of Africa’s lowest points, and arguably one of Earth’s most extreme landscapes. 📍Danakil Depression in Ethiopia is like stepping onto another planet. Travelling here is quite adventurous and offbeat - I slept on makeshift cot under the stars since there are no hotels here. There are no proper washrooms either. You cannot take a shower for the couple of days that you are there. It does get to you because you’d already be very sweaty due to the extreme weather. I carries a lot of face wipes with me and wiped my body with it. Also you would need a lot of water, a lot! Our guide nicely arranged everything for us! Must-visit spots in the Danakil Depression: • Dallol’s Sulphuric Pools - Otherworldly neon yellow and green acid pools, creating nature’s most vibrant color palette • Lake Asale (Salt Flats) - Endless white salt plains where local Afar people still mine salt blocks by hand • Erta Ale Volcano - One of only eight permanent lava lakes in the world, best viewed at night when the molten lake glows red The Danakil Depression might be inhospitable, but it’s precisely this extremity that makes it extraordinary. Between Dallol’s alien landscape, the salt flats’ endless white expanse, and Erta Ale’s molten glow, you will make memories that you will cherish for a lifetime!
