It was a weekend and I was scouting of various places to visit. I chanced upon @chennairailmuseum which is one of the best. Why? Entry fee is just ₹40 for adults & ₹15 for kids above 4 years. Kids below 4 years enter for free. Please note there is no free snacks which used to be given prior to covid-19(a tea and a samosa in the canteen) Though entry is valid for 2 hours, if you had to see all the places in detail, it will take at Leary 3 hours. The theatre was under renovation (as on 29th June 2025), when we visited. Ambiance : This place is so cast and has good vegetation which includes hibiscus plants. Hence you feel cool inside the premises. Kids: There are 2 parks with lot of amenities for kids to play. Please note these are for kids below 12 years. Waiting Area & Toy Train: There is a waiting area near the station where you can board the toy-train that will take you for a ride across the property which is included in the ticket entry cost. Museum: There are lot of engines - both real & scale models which are kept on display, indoors and outdoor. For the engines and bogeys that were kept outside, you can get into some of them. Live Demo: There is a live demo of scale model train running on the tracks covering Perambur and Mayilai and you get to see traffic signals changing and the rail gate getting activated real time. Souvenir Shop: You also have this beautiful shop inside which sells key chains, toy trains, scale model trains at lower cost. I ended up purchasing 3 key chains, 1 you train for my kid and a pure leather wallet at an unbelievable price. They had just 1 wallet else i would have bought 2 more.
