Read the caption ⬇️⬇️⬇️ “Maybe it wasn’t that bad,” or “I could be remembering it wrong- it didn’t happen like that.” People who are more commonly subjected to gaslighting (manipulated to doubt their own reality) may, in turn, self-gaslight more often. What does self gaslighting look like? 1. Telling yourself you are overreacting about an argument with a partner 2. Thinking it must not have happened that way in your childhood because none of your other siblings seem bothered. 3. Blaming yourself for “not handling things better” without acknowledging all the difficulties and challenges you’re facing and the strength you need to survive them 4. Criticising yourself for being TOO SENSITIVE or TOO EMOTIONAL without checking in on what you’re feeling and going through. Neglecting your emotions completely and not validating them. 5. Shaming yourself for being TOO NEEDY. Without acknowledging that you’re human and you have needs which are most likely unmet and it is this that drives the behaviour you’re shaming yourself for 6. Criticising yourself for not “GETTING OVER” that traumatic incident already. Without acknowledging the complexity of trauma, its profound impact and the patience / time needed to work through the healing process. Here are some AFFIRMATIONS for you : 1. My feelings are VALID 2. I’m not too much, I’m enough 3. I’m doing better than what my mind tells me 4. I am not responsible for someone else’s toxic behaviour Maybe self love all what you need right now. #gaslighting #psychology #psychologytoday #psychologist #mentalhealth #recovery #trending #indianpsychologist
