▪︎Kartika Month is considered as the holiest month in the Hindu Calendar, old women specially widow known as "Habisyalis" in Odisha, observe Habisha and worship Lord Rai Damodara (Vishnu) & Goddess Laxmi which is called as“Radha Damodar Puja” & "Rai Damodar Brata" in Puri. ▪︎They have only one meal in a day before sunset this is known as "Habisha", during the fasting. ▪︎As per the tradition, those who observe the habisha or the Kartika brata renounce a number of vegetables, a number of pulses & other leafy vegetables for the whole month. ▪︎Agasti leaves & flower are used specially in Kartik month (Oct – Nov) to cook and eat as leafy vegetables. Agasti leaves & flowers are added to Habisa dalma which is prepared during this month. ▪︎It is believed that adding this into the diet not only benefits health but also purify the body. (Check my previous post for its detailed health benefits). ▪︎Agathi leaves taste bitter and mildly tart. But this bitterness can be counteracted when cooked. RECIPE: ●I prepared this easy & satwik version of this green using split moong dal (green gram). ●First separate and clean the leaves. ● Pressure cook or boil some moong dal with salt & keep it aside. (roasting, turmeric, ginger, green chilli is also restricted in cooking during this month those who observe it) ● Heat a cooking pan & add 1 tablespoon ghee. Then add a whole cumin half tablespoon and 1 dried red chilli, saute for a minute. ● Add the chopped Agastya greens and add salt to taste. Cook until it releases the moisture and reduces. ●Add the cooked moong dal & grated coconut to the cooked green and mix it all well. Cook for another 1 minute and serve hot. #agastileavesrecipe #agastyaplant #agastisaagamuga #odiacuisine #odiafood #reelindia #reelkarofeelkaro #reelsvideo #foodstory #odishatourism #masterchefindia #reelsinstagram
