The longer I work in corporate, the more I realize... 🎯 Most urgent deadlines are just poor planning from someone who won't admit it. "We need this by EOD." "This is urgent." "Can you prioritize this ASAP?" Translation: I didn't plan ahead, and now it's your problem. Here's what I've learned—urgency is often manufactured. Real emergencies are rare. Most "urgent" requests are just someone else's lack of planning dressed up as your priority. And the worst part? They'll never admit it. Instead, they'll make you feel like you're not a team player for questioning it. So here's what I do now: ✅ Ask: "What's driving the timeline?" (Watch them scramble for an answer.) ✅ Push back strategically: "I can prioritize this, but X will need to be delayed. Which is more important?" ✅ Document everything so when the "urgent" thing changes, I have receipts. Stop letting other people's poor planning hijack your calendar. You're not being difficult. You're being strategic. And that's exactly what leaders do.
