Shrishti Chaudhary 's "A Shimla Affair" is a beautiful historical fiction set in 1940's colonial time, a young woman Nalini Mistry yarned an unconventional life, a life outside the four walls of their Royal Hotel Shimla, a life that is very different from her elder sister's dream, a life that she knew her sister would not be agreed with yet Nalini want that life from core of her heart. Her heart achieved wings when she meets a young british officer Charles, little did she know the love that starts fluttering inside her is not her original destination. Nalini and her two older sisters―Noor and Afreen―run the Royal Hotel Shimla, an opulent establishment that serves British high society. But when an underground revolutionary group asks them to aid a murderous conspiracy during the hotel’s Summer Jubilee Ball, they find themselves thrust headfirst into a dangerous game of lies. It doesn’t help that Nalini finds herself falling for Charles Nayler, a British officer; a man who sees her like nobody else. As the night of the ball approaches, the sisters are drawn into a web of hidden agendas, shifting alliances, and impossible choices―where nothing is what it seems, and the price of freedom may be everything. It's a captivating, atmospheric narrative that captures three strong women and how their lives changed in an evening ball. Shrishti Chaudhary brilliantly portrayed Nalini and growing layers in her character. I loved the way she created the intensity bit by bit, the process is captivating and smooth. Shr perfectly balanced between a dreamer girl and strong bold thinker. Her spiraling thoughts, internal conflicts, author handled it with great care and empathy. Three strong women, how they discovered their inner thoughts, their bonding, the call for the nation and its a saga of bravery. Chaudhary makes them alive with her words. In a luscious, blossoming Shimla, atmospheric story telling, each character came to its life. This book is a riveting amalgamation of Indian revolution, bravery, sisterhood, a perfect book for beginners.
